Line C: Young / Robrecht of Ohio (Jean Cochran's parents)
Compiled 2026-10-25 for Joel Cochran's family tree. Free public sources only. No paid sources, no Ancestry, no library fee requests, no people-search aggregators for living people. Verified facts and candidates are kept in separate sections. A "not found" list closes the file.
Headline result of this line: Jean's father is identified by full name as Donald Nelson Young (b. 6 June 1899, d. 1 June 1978), and her mother as Dorothy Jeanne Robrecht. They married in 1921 in Ohio County, West Virginia (Wheeling), not in Ohio. The Robrecht trail leads to Wheeling, WV, where a Robrecht family plot sits at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Donald and Dorothy's own burial place is not yet found (see Not Found).
1. VERIFIED (each fact with its source)
Jean Ann (Young) Cochran (already on file, from Social Security Numident)
- Born March 28, 1934, Lakewood, Ohio; died August 6, 2005, Mishawaka, IN; buried Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. Wife of Benjamin T. Cochran Jr. (1933-1981).
- Her parents, per the Numident: Donald N. Young and Dorothy J. Robrecht.
Jean's gravestone record, St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN (gravestone pass, 2026-10-25)
- A burial record for Jean Cochran, 1934-2005 (aged 71) exists with gravesite address 375 W Cleveland Rd, Granger, Indiana 46530, which is the address of St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Source: PeopleLegacy burial records (a Find a Grave mirror): https://peoplelegacy.com/burial-records/jean/cochran/
- Inscription-level detail (exact stone text, whether she shares a stone or plot with Benjamin T. Cochran Jr., 1933-1981, who is also recorded buried there per the parent project's PeopleLegacy spouse link) still needs the Find a Grave memorial page itself. Find a Grave's search returns HTTP 403 to the text fetcher used here; flagged for a live-browser pass (see Not Found).
Donald N. Young = Donald Nelson Young
- Marriage: "YOUNG, Donald Nelson married in 1921 in Ohio, West Virginia, United States a bride named Dorothy Jeanne Robrecht." Source: SortedByName entry citing the West Virginia Vital Records (wvculture.org): https://sortedbyname.com/letter_y/young/index_963.html — the record system itself: https://wvculture.org/vital-records-interactive/
- Note: "Ohio, West Virginia" in that entry is Ohio County, West Virginia (Wheeling), not the state of Ohio.
- Birth / service / death: Donald Nelson Young, Social Security number 272-01-4081 (Ohio-issued), born 6 June 1899, entered the U.S. Army 10 October 1918, released 21 December 1918, died 1 June 1978. Source: VA BIRLS beneficiary record as transcribed by SortedByName: https://sortedbyname.com/letter_y/young/index_963.html
- So the "N" is Nelson, and Dorothy's "J" is Jeanne.
The Wheeling Robrecht plot (gravestone verified; exact link to Dorothy not proven)
- Charles Augustus Robrecht, 18 Sep 1865 - 31 Mar 1931, Find a Grave memorial, Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. Plot: Section 6, North 1/2 Lot 11, Center West. He was one of the eight killed in the TWA Flight 599 crash near Bazaar, Kansas, on 31 March 1931 (the crash that also killed Knute Rockne). Source: Find a Grave virtual cemetery for the flight's victims: https://www.findagrave.com/virtual-cemetery/325964
- Cemetery: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, WV. After a funeral Mass at St. Michael's Church, "he was interred at Mount Calvary Cemetery." Source: https://www.mikeminder.com/ohio-valley-history-blog/previous/19
- Charles Sr. was born in rural Ohio County, son of a truck gardener; he built the C.A. Robrecht Company, a wholesale produce/grocery firm at 1910 Main Street, Wheeling; a devout Catholic of St. Michael's Parish; lived at 10 Oak Park, Wheeling. Same source as above.
- His wife was Theresa (Stenger) Robrecht, who died about 1928, three years before the crash. His surviving children named in 1931 coverage: two married daughters living in Amarillo, Texas (he was flying to Amarillo because a granddaughter had died of influenza and a daughter was critically ill), daughter Theresa (living at home in Wheeling), and son Charles A. Robrecht Jr. of Elizabeth, New Jersey. Source: https://www.archivingwheeling.org/blog/a-crash-of-coincidences
- Caution: Dorothy Jeanne is not among the children named for Charles Sr. in the sources read. He is therefore not established as her father. The Wheeling Robrechts are her probable kin cluster (she married in Ohio County in 1921 and the surname is rare), but whether she was Charles's daughter, niece, or cousin is unproven. Do not merge her into his household yet.
Lakewood Park Cemetery, Rocky River, OH: Robrecht negative (gravestone pass)
- Lakewood Park Cemetery's interment records on Interment.net (37,916 records taken from the cemetery office, deaths 1834-2019), surname file Ro-Ry, searched in full: zero ROBRECHT entries (and no Robreck/Robrecht-variant entries in that alphabetical span). There is no Robrecht burial at Lakewood Park Cemetery in the cemetery's own records. Source: https://www.Interment.net/data/us/oh/cuyahoga/lakewood/records-ro-ry.htm
2. CANDIDATES / LEADS (not proven)
- Donald and Dorothy Young's burial place. Unknown. Remaining candidate cemeteries, in order: Lakewood Park Cemetery, Rocky River (the family's 1934 hometown cemetery; its Young surname file could not be loaded in this pass, so this is unchecked, NOT a negative), Sunset Memorial Park (North Olmsted), West Park Cemetery (Cleveland), and Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, WV (if Dorothy was brought home to the Robrecht plot).
- Anna H. (Robrecht) Studer, Jul 1890 - 1964, memorial in a Find a Grave "Immaculate Conception Cemetery" (cemetery ID 92762; the fetched page did not confirm which state, and there is no grave photo). A Robrecht-by-birth burial of the right generation. No link to Dorothy established; do not merge. Source: https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/92762/memorial-search?gpsfilter=gps
- Robrecht origin. Record-based evidence so far reaches only this far: a Robrecht (Charles Sr.'s father, a truck gardener) was already in Ohio County, (West) Virginia by 1865, when Charles was born there. The family was German Catholic (St. Michael's Parish, Wheeling). No census, passenger, or naturalization record was pulled in this pass, so no immigration date or German hometown is claimed.
3. SAME-NAME PEOPLE CHECKED AND RULED OUT (do not merge)
- Donald Neil Young (b. 6 Jul 1927, Detroit, MI, d. 6 Jan 1986, ZIP 49058): different man; SSN issued in Michigan.
- Donald N. Young of Paulding County, OH (d. 7 Aug 1999; wife a Benedict): different man.
- Donald Nelson Young of Welland/Kitchener, Ontario (1945-2025) and Donald Nelson Young of Warren, MI (1937-2017): different men.
- Other Robrecht burial clusters found on Find a Grave / PeopleLegacy and treated as separate families unless a record links them: Anadarko, OK (Fred W. Robrecht 1840-1923 line, Memory Lane Cemetery; includes Agnes L. (Robrecht) O'Donley 1905-1992, WikiTree Robrecht-6), Antigo, WI, East Hanover, NJ (Gate of Heaven Cemetery), Chattanooga, TN, Scottsdale, AZ, Fair Oaks, CA, Whittier, CA, Concord, CA. None is in Ohio or Wheeling.
4. NOT FOUND (explicit)
- Donald Nelson Young's burial place and gravestone; his parents' names; his occupation; his birthplace beyond the 6 June 1899 date (Ohio-issued SSN; WWI Army service Oct-Dec 1918).
- Dorothy Jeanne (Robrecht) Young's birth date and place, death date and place, burial, and parents' names. No SSDI/Numident transcription, obituary, or memorial for her surfaced in any free source searched.
- The 1921 Ohio County, WV marriage certificate itself. The index entry was located through SortedByName's citation of WV Vital Records, but the WV Vital Research Records search is an interactive form the text fetcher cannot submit. A live-browser session can pull the record image, which for 1921 Ohio County marriages typically states ages, birthplaces, and sometimes parents. This is the single highest-value next record in this line.
- The 1940 census household of Donald and Dorothy Young in Lakewood, OH (would list Jean, age about 6, and any siblings). FamilySearch record search requires a free account sign-in and could not be run signed-out. Jean's siblings: no record found naming any.
- Cleveland Necrology File entries for Donald (d. 1978) or Dorothy: the index is not freely searchable by text fetch.
- Any Robrecht burial in Cuyahoga County, OH: none found in the sources searched. Lakewood Park Cemetery is a verified negative (cemetery records); Find a Grave per-cemetery surname searches for the other Lakewood/Cleveland cemeteries still require a live browser because Find a Grave search blocks the text fetcher (HTTP 403).
- Any census, naturalization, or passenger record for the Robrecht family's arrival in the US: none pulled in this pass.
5. METHOD NOTE
Find a Grave's global memorial search returns HTTP 403 to automated text fetching, so the gravestone pass was run through the search-engine index of Find a Grave pages, Find a Grave cemetery and virtual-cemetery pages that do load, the PeopleLegacy mirror of Find a Grave data, BillionGraves index results, Interment.net's transcription of Lakewood Park Cemetery office records, and SortedByName's transcriptions of Social Security / VA records. A live-browser Find a Grave session remains the route for: Donald Nelson Young (1899-1978) and Dorothy Jeanne Young memorial searches, per-cemetery Robrecht surname searches in the remaining Cuyahoga County cemeteries, and Jean Cochran's memorial page at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park for inscription and family-link detail.
